During high season, this becomes Murcia’s most accessed point and a must-go for beach lovers. Whether you’re planning on spending time alone, with family, or with friends, this is the perfect destination, and there’s always something to catch your attention and make your trip unforgettable.

The distance is also a huge advantage, not only between places in La Manga but also in general. You can access the center of Cartagena and other famous locations on foot without the need to rent a car.

Hotels and Accommodations

image from the external lounge of the hotel with the beach on the background

When looking for hotels in the region, Galúa Hote, located in “the strip,” is probably the first option you’ll find and also our recommendation. The rooms might not be the cheapest overall, but the structure of the common areas and the entire hotel will definitely please all guests.

Everything is impeccable, and the structure is top-notch. You have a beach bar, swimming pool, entertainment programme options, and everything you expect from a high-quality hotel. The best part is that you have an external area where you can eat breakfast directly at the beach.

It’s a terrace with seats and services that make you feel like a king. All rooms have an air conditioning system, which can save your life during the summer in the region.

Along with the Galúa Hotel, there are numerous other options in the region of La Manga, from various price ranges and kinds. This gives you a large number of options, making it easier to find an alternative that perfectly fits your needs.

Endless Fun in the Region

picture of people walking through the coast of La Manga

Cartagena is one of the most crowded regions of Spain, and there are endless possibilities for activities. The best part is that everything is fairly near each other, and you can do everything on foot.

You can visit Plaza Bohemia, enjoy the sea while eating food from some of the best bars and restaurants in the region, visit shops, and many other things in one of the most sought-after areas of Spain. The region is full of possibilities for people of all ages, whether adults, kids, or anyone.

The same goes for water sports and activities. La Manga is the perfect place for diving, sailing, and anything you expect from a beach with a great structure. Make sure to travel during summer, between June and September, to get the best weather possible and enjoy everything this place has to offer.

You Don’t have to Go Anywhere to Enjoy the Experience

picture taken from inside the hotel's pool showing the beach

If you want a comfortable experience with everything near you and can spend the entire vacation chilling, this is the place for you. Whether you stay at Galúa Hotel and enjoy the wellness centre or at the lounge overlooking the sea, you’ll find all kinds of services without moving away from the beach. The same goes if you’re exploring any part of the shore. The bar serves you everything directly on the sand, so you don’t have to worry about going to the places to order.

It’s one of the most comfortable experiences in Spain and will please those who like to spend the day in the loungers sunbathing. To know the best options for food and drinks, you can always ask the locals for popular suggestions or check the reviews online to see which ones are better ranked.

Crowded During High Season

image showing multiple umbrellas and loungers on the shore of the beach

If you plan on going to Playa de Galua and other attractions in Cartagena during high season, you can expect large groups of people. These places tend to be really overcrowded sometimes, especially between July and August, which is the peak of the summer season.

Even though the beach is larger than others in the region and the structural conditions allow many people to use the space comfortably at the same time, there are times when it can be challenging to find a place on the sand to accommodate yourself.

However, that’s rare and shouldn’t be something to worry about when planning what you want to do in this incredible region. It is just something that can happen depending on the week or month you visit the place. Remember that you can always see the other beaches on foot in case Playa de Galua is too crowded. All the options are fairly close and can be accessed in no more than a 10-minute walk.

Services and Recommendations

image showing two lifeguards preparing their equipment

As you might expect from a beach with lots of waves and crowded spaces, Playa de Galua counts on lifeguard services that can be found throughout the beach to help with everyone’s safety and any emergencies that may occur. The service is free, so don’t think twice about calling them if you need anything.

Along with the lifeguards, you can also find tons of warnings and signs throughout the beach with recommendations you should follow to ensure everyone’s safety. Doing this provides the best experience possible from the beginning to the end of your vacation, not only for you but for those around you as well. If you have any questions regarding them, you can always ask the lifeguards or local workers.

Playa Paraíso La Manga: A True Paradise In Spain!

Who doesn’t love the beach, right? The sea breeze, the sun to get a tan, and the soft sand to lie down and relax on… it sounds wonderful! Beaches are true paradises for those who like to connect with nature on their travels, and that’s why today, we’re going to talk about a literal paradise. Forgive me for the silly pun, but today, we will talk about Paradise Beach.

Playa Paraiso, located in the charming Mar Menor region of the province of Murcia, Spain, is a destination that lives up to its name. Known for its calm, shallow waters, this beach offers a haven of tranquility and natural beauty, making it ideal for families, couples, and water sports enthusiasts.

Table of Contents:

Features of Playa Paraiso

Playa Paraiso borders the municipality of La Manga, which has two seas (the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean) and endless beaches.

The stretch of sand called Playa Paraiso stretches along the beachfront of Playa Honda, but with a unique distinction; it is not backed by any urban development but by the former Marchamalo salt flats. These two are separated by a wide seafront path and a landscaped area. The fine sandy beach faces northwest and is bordered to the east by Playa de los Alemanes, bringing the total distance to 800 meters. While Playa Lomas del Castillico is 1.7 km from there.

Although delineating boundaries between these beaches is challenging, given their seamless fusion, each has its unique charm and character waiting to be explored.

Specifications

Here are the direct specifications of Playa Paraiso:

  • Length: 800 meters
  • Average width: 17 meters
  • Sea: Mar Menor
  • Type of ground: Medium sand
  • Degree of occupancy: High
  • Type: Semi-urban

Water and Sand

The warm, calm waters of Playa del Paraíso make it unique – a characteristic synonymous with the Mar Menor’s beaches. The sea is not deep and is safe for small children and inexperienced swimmers, as they can play without any danger. In addition, the fine, golden sand creates an ideal setting for sunbathing and relaxing. By all accounts, this beach seems safe and ideal for swimming or sunbathing.

Climate

The region enjoys more than 300 days of sunshine annually with a Mediterranean climate. Summer temperatures are very pleasant, ranging between 25°C and 30°C, while winters are mild, with averages around 15°C. This makes the region’s beaches perfect for year-round enjoyment.

Facilities and Infrastructure

Those who visit the beach have access to countless facilities that transform the experience from good to excellent!

Accessibility

Paraíso Beach is easily accessible, with parking located directly on the beach. There are also wheelchair ramps, making the beach accessible to those with reduced mobility.

Amenities

The beach is well-equipped with a variety of amenities, including:

  • Bathrooms and showers: Clean and well-maintained facilities.
  • Sun loungers and umbrellas: Available for rent.
  • Lifeguards: During peak season, the beach has lifeguard services to ensure the safety of swimmers.
  • Litter Bins

Playa Paraiso Is Dog Friendly

Here’s some good news for animal lovers: Praia do Paraíso is a dog-friendly beach! Dogs can stay and bathe under the supervision and responsibility of their owners.

The signs at the beach’s entrance specify some rules for use. Due to its proximity to conventional bathing areas, wooden markers with ropes delimit the sandy area that dogs can use. The beach also has dog wash stations so owners can remove sand and salt from their pets.

Where to Eat Near Playa Paraiso

The area has many restaurants and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. The closest place on the beach is Coco & Melón Chiringuito (a type of beach kiosk). The food there is very good, and the view of the sea makes everything even better.

Almost at Honda Beach, there is another Chiringuito: Casablanca. This is another great option for those who don’t want to leave the sand to eat.

But, if that’s not the case, my recommendation is Malvasía restaurant, a highly rated and luxurious restaurant with contemporary food, a great wine list, and simply magnificent! It’s worth a visit.

Nearby Playa Paraiso

The Playa del Paraíso area offers a variety of options to suit any preference of those looking for different activities and places of interest. Here are some of the main recreational options:

Complejo Deportivo Playa Paraiso

Right next to Playa Paraiso, behind a residential complex, the Complejo Deportivo Playa Paraiso is perfect for sports enthusiasts. It has several courts, a gym, and a swimming pool, making it a great place to practice or learn these sports.

Calblanque Nature Park

Calblanque Nature Park
ServiGroup

Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Peña del Águila Regional Park is a ten-minute drive from the Playa Paraiso. A nature reserve known for its pristine beaches, rugged cliffs, and rich biodiversity, the park offers hiking and cycling trails and is a haven for various flora and fauna.

La Manga Club

Just a 10-minute drive away is La Manga Club, a world-renowned golf resort with three 18-hole golf courses. In addition to golf, the resort offers guests a variety of leisure options, including tennis academies, a spa, swimming pools, and various restaurants and bars.

La Manga Club is a place that combines luxury with leisure and also offers accommodation options!

Cartagena

The city of Cartagena, located a 20-minute drive away, is rich in history and culture. Some of the main attractions include the Roman Theater, the Port of Cartagena, and the Historic Centre. This trip is well worth it for those who like to walk and discover new places!

Cabo de Palos

Just 2 km away, Cabo de Palos is a charming coastal village that juts out into the Mediterranean Sea, on one side stretching out along an unspoiled coastline towards Cartagena. It is known for its marine reserve, historic lighthouse (very cool for taking photos), and excellent diving conditions. It was there that I took my diving lessons and was finally able to do my first dive, which was an incredible experience!

How To Get To Playa Paraiso

Location of Playa Paraíso, right next to Playa Honda

Playa Paraiso is easily accessible by various means of transportation. By car, you can get there via the RM-12 highway, which connects Cartagena to La Manga del Mar Menor; just take exit 8 towards Playa Honda/Mar de Cristal. For those who prefer public transportation, the ALSA bus line connects Cartagena to La Manga, with stops near Playa Honda and Playa Paraiso. Taxis and private transportation services are also available in the area for convenience.

The entire region has numerous hotel and vacation home/apartment options. Rentals are available to suit all types of comforts and budgets. There are also plenty of supermarkets and restaurants all around!

Table of Contents

Where’s Playa del Vivero Located

map from La Manga showing playa del vivero

As we mentioned, Playa el Vivero is located in Cartagena, more specifically in the region of La Manga, right next to Mar Menor. The sandy beach is one of the most sought-after destinations in Murcia, whether because of its clear-sand shore or because of the multiple other beauties it holds.

It’s the perfect spot for some photos, and with good weather conditions, it’s ideal for spending the day. This location also makes it easier for tourists to go to any other place or access any part of La Manga without needing to rent a car. You can go to the accommodation where you’ll stay or look for restaurants, all on foot.

Guide for Planning Your Trip

picture of multiple boats on the shore of playa del vivero

Now, it’s time to examine the main aspects you need to know before packing your things for Playa del Vivero. Make sure to look at each aspect below to better understand the place and what you can do to make your trip unforgettable.

We will cover every aspect of the region, including water, parking, and anything else. Here’s what you need to know:

Affordable and Luxury Hotels

picture from a resort located in La Manga

Whether you’re visiting Playa del Vivero or other Mar Menor beaches, one thing is sure: you’ll find various options when it comes to accommodation.

There are hotels and Airbnbs of all price ranges to ensure you find the perfect one that fits your expectations and budget. You can stay at simple rooms available for rental or complete resorts with breakfast and everything you expect from a top-notch experience.

Choosing the more affordable options doesn’t mean they’ll be far from La Manga. You can find many cheap options almost at the shore of Playa del Vivero. Make sure to do deep research before planning your trip, and you’ll surely find multiple options for an excellent price.

Close to Restaurants and Attractions

image of a restaurant in Cartagena

If you’re going to La Manga, it is essential to know that you’ll find everything you want in the region, dismissing the need to rent a car or take the road to go somewhere else to find what you want.

We highly recommend Vivero 55 if you want a great Mediterranean/Spanish cuisine experience that is both affordable and unforgettable. Each dish is made with precision and love to provide the best meal you can think of in the region.

The restaurant is one of the closest to Playa del Vivero and delivers excellent food and a cozy atmosphere you’ll love. The restaurant also has an external area if you want to have your meal feeling the breeze from the sea.

Small Location with Everything You Need

picture showing multiple people enjoying the beach in Playa del Vivero

When you look at a map of La Manga, you’ll see that the region is relatively small, allowing you to reach any part of it within minutes. This might lead some to wonder whether they can find everything they need locally or if they’ll need to travel elsewhere for certain amenities.

Based on my time in the region, I can assure you that Cartagena has everything you might need during your trip, whether it comes to entertainment, food, or anything else. You can take a short walk around the region and see if anything catches your eye, or look at your phone map to see the main options available nearby.

On the other hand, the beach can disappoint many people since it doesn’t have a restaurant or anything like that around. If you want to grab some food or drinks, you might need to walk to the nearest beach to get them, but it is not far, and you can find everything you want within minutes.

Rarely Overcrowded

image of multiple people sunbathing at the beach

If you look for a peaceful destination for your next trip, free of annoying things from the urban area or noise, Playa del Vivero is a great option. It is a famous destination but is rarely overcrowded, and you can always enjoy the region’s silence while sunbathing.

Even though it’s rare, there are dates and occasions when you can find a high volume of people throughout the year. But it is nothing that will bother you or ruin the calm atmosphere of this incredible place.

There’s enough space for everyone throughout the beach, and even when I visited La Manga during high season, I never had a problem with space. It is one of the best beaches in Murcia if you want a peaceful vacation to connect with nature and enjoy a chilling experience.

It’s in the Middle of Two Famous Beaches

picture of a wooden path leading to the sea in Cartagena

Playa del Vivero is truly a hidden gem, especially when considering that it is situated in the middle of two of La Manga’s main beaches, Playa Paraíso and Playa Honda, both much more extensive and populated during low and high seasons. If you’re looking for something more crowded and full of energy, you can easily access both areas on foot with a short walk that will take not more than ten minutes.

This variety of options also makes La Manga a popular destination for tourists and visitors. There’s no need to worry about running out of things to do; you can easily walk between beaches and experience a different atmosphere every day of your stay.

Shallow and Calm Sea

image showing the sand and sea of Playa del Vivero

If you like agitated seas with lots of waves, there might be better destinations for your next vacation than Playa del Vivero. Here, you’ll find a shallow, calm sea that is great for a quiet experience and spending quality time with your family.

Speaking of family, the sea is also perfect for kids as there are no waves, and it is way safer than most other seas in the region. That’s why it is so familiar to see children running around, and even though it’s one of the safest seas, you’ll also find lifeguard services ready to help you in case of any emergency.

If you’re looking for some waves and more intense experiences, some neighboring beaches have exactly what you want, like Playa Paraiso. The sea there is usually more agitated, and you can take a short walk directly from Playa del Vivero. It’s a great way to please everyone, regardless of the kind of sea they like.

Playa Matasgordas in Murcia: A Natural Refuge

Located in the Murcia region in the small town of San Javier, Playa Matasgordas is a true refuge for those seeking tranquility and direct contact with nature. In this article, we will explore the wonders of this beach, its facilities, and everything the surrounding area offers to make the most of your visit.

Table of Contents

About Murcia

Murcia is known for its rich history and stunning natural landscapes. The region in southeastern Spain has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters, making it a perfect destination for people looking for good swimming conditions all year round. The coast of Murcia, called Costa Cálida, is famous for its fine sand beaches and clear waters. The location is an influential place for tourism and water sports.

La Manga Del Mar Menor

One of Murcia’s most attractive areas is La Manga del Mar Menor, a destination where you can relax and enjoy the sea and the activities at its Nautical Station.

The Mar Menor is the largest saltwater lagoon in Europe, located on the coast of southeastern Spain. A strip of sand separates the 52 square kilometers from the Mediterranean, creating warm, shallow waters and attractive beaches popular with tourists.

La Manga, or La Manga del Mar Menor, is a coastal point of the Mar Menor. The strip is 21 km long and 100 meters wide, separating the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor lagoon, from Cabo de Palos to Punta del Mojón. The region is incredible, and as a tourist, I can say that it was a great option for traveling with my family. I was able to visit countless paradisiacal beaches and practice countless water sports. One of the beaches I loved most in La Manga was Playa Matasgordas, and that’s what we will talk about today.

General Beach Information

Playa Matasgordas stands out for its serene and unspoiled atmosphere. It is a semi-urban beach with few visitors, contributing to its calm and secluded atmosphere. This makes it perfect for those who enjoy less crowded and quieter beaches. With an extension of 3,300 meters and an average width of 10 meters, the beach offers a vast area of coarse golden sand, ideal for sunbathing and beach games.

Facilities

Although it is a more natural and less developed beach, Playa Matagorda offers some facilities to ensure the comfort of visitors. Services are concentrated near the main residential blocks and include drinking water, litter bins, play areas for children, and footwashes. There is also a hire service for sunbeds and sun shades offered. Hiring sporting and leisure equipment, like windsurfing equipment and sailing boats, is possible for sports lovers.

Nearby Gastronomy

The beach is very close to urban areas, and within a 1-kilometer radius of distance, you can find several restaurants and bars with great cuisine. The restaurant that I liked the most was Restaurant Camarote de la Martinique, a Mediterranean restaurant with great options for those who want to try Spanish food.

On other days when I was hungry, I visited the beach kiosks in the area: Chiringuito Cálido, a tapas bar on the beach, and Chiringuito El Francés, where I tried different and very refreshing drinks.

Leisure Options In The Area of Playa Matasgordas

In addition to enjoying the beach, the area around Playa Matasgordas offers a variety of activities for visitors.

The Polideportivo La Manga del Mar Menor is an excellent leisure option for those in the Playa Matasgordas area. The sports complex offers a wide range of activities, including tennis, basketball, and soccer courts, as well as swimming and other water sports facilities. Since I was staying near the area, I could go there and enjoy the modern and well-equipped facilities. It was a pleasant experience for my family.

Another slightly more extreme option is the Mediterranean Jet Jet Ski Rental La Manga. Near the beach, the place offers jet skis for rent and rides, as well as guided tours. They also have “scooters,” which are toys with slides—kids love them!

In the evenings, I most enjoyed watching movies at Cine El Galan La Manga (movie theater) with my family.

How to Get to Playa Matasgordas

Location of Playa Matasgordas, San Javier,. Easy access.

Playa Matasgordas is surrounded by buildings and holiday apartments. The beach is nearest the road Autovía de La Manga – MU-312 Gran Vía Salida 70 and has easy access. Located between kilometers 12.2 and 8.9 of La Manga del Mar Menor, you can easily access it:

By Bus: The ALSA bus line offers regular services to La Manga del Mar Menor from nearby cities, including Murcia and Cartagena. Buses leave Murcia Bus Station in the city center and stop at various stops throughout La Manga, making Playa Matasgordas easy to reach. La Martinique – Cart is the bus stop nearest to the beach.

By Car: The most convenient way for those traveling by car is to use the AP-7 motorway (Autopista del Mediterráneo). You can take exit 800 to get onto RM-12, which leads directly to La Manga del Mar Menor. From there, follow the signs to Playa Matasgordas. Parking areas are close to the beach, making it easy for visitors to access.

Playa Matasgordas: A Good Experience In La Manga

The sea, the sun, the sand, and the calm and peaceful climate. Being at the beach is energizing, reconnecting with the best part of you.

Playa Matasgordas is a true hidden gem, offering a natural retreat with its golden sands, crystal clear waters, and peaceful atmosphere. Despite being a less developed beach, the facilities available ensure the comfort and safety of visitors, making it a perfect destination to relax and unwind. With plenty of public transport options, easy access, and interesting activities and places nearby, visiting Playa Matasgordas is a memorable experience to add to your to-do list.

These are just some of the perks that Cala Cortina offers. Everything contributes to this being tourists’ favorite spot in the entire region. From cliffs to other natural formations, everything contributes to a landscape that will never be forgotten.

It Has Everything You Need

picture of Cala Cortina during night

Even though the beach doesn’t have kilometres in length like others, it has a complete structure to provide everything you need in terms of services and tools. You’ll find plenty of showers to clean your feet from the sand, restaurants to eat in, and lifeguards throughout the beach who are ready to help you with whatever you need.

It is a small bay but has all the structure you expect from a beach of this kind. You won’t have to worry about going somewhere else or driving back to the hotel if you need toilets, food, or any kind of service.

These lifeguards and help services are essential, and you should always seek these professionals in case of any accident or emergency, whether when exploring the rocks around the coast or the sea. Make sure to follow all the instructions they give you for the best experience possible when enjoying this Mediterranean paradise.

It Can Be Crowded

image of the beach showing people in the sand

As you might expect from Cartagena’s most famous beach, it can be really crowded sometimes, especially during the high season in the summer, when all hotels are fully reserved.

Whether you visit the area during the day or night, you’ll always find someone at the beach and an open restaurant to grab some food and drinks. It’s a good option whether you want to enjoy the nightlife or chill during a sunny day.

The number of people in Cala Cortina can also be a problem if you’re using a rented car or even using your own. Finding a parking lot is not easy, and the nearest ones are always full. The best way is to avoid this kind of transportation if you’re visiting the beach.

Endless Activities to Do

image underwater the sea of Cala Cortina showing fish

Cala Cortina is also a paradise for doing all kinds of activities. There’s the iconic steep staircase if you want to practice photography and the crystal clear water for scuba diving.

You’re also not restricted only to the region, as the center of Cartagena is only a few minutes away. Whether you want to visit the theater for a more cultural experience or just try the awarded local food in some of the restaurants in the region, there are infinite possibilities in the region.

The fact that you can be anywhere you want in just a few kilometers makes the experience much better and more dynamic. Make sure to bring some friends and enjoy everything this piece of Spain has to offer.

Don’t Worry About Your Spanish

image showing the sea of Cala Cortina and the cliffs in the background

One thing about Cala Cortina and the region of Murcia is that even though knowing how to speak Spanish can help a lot, it is not obligatory. You might meet some people who don’t speak English, but that’s not common, and you can easily find someone to help you with whatever you need.

I had no problem looking for information or anything like that during my time there, even though my Spanish is not the best. We highly recommend learning the basics before traveling, maybe some Duolingo sessions but nothing too fancy.

Where Is Playa de la Isla Located

map showing the region of Mazarrón in Murcia

Playa de la Isla is located in the region of Mazarrón in Murcia, Spain. It is also one of the biggest beaches in the place and has numerous amenities around it, making the experience even better for everyone visiting the place.

Even though it’s a fairly well-known place in the region, it is never too crowded, and you don’t need to expect lots of people on the shore. It is the perfect place to rest and enjoy the sound of the waves as they reach the coast.

It is fairly close to some of Murcia’s main points, including Cartagena and other important towns around the location. It welcomes visitors throughout the entire year, but summer is when most people like to visit this piece of paradise, whether because of the beautiful sun that illuminates the sea and golden sand or because of the higher water temperature.

What You Need to Know Before Packing Your Luggage

picture from playa de la isla showing houses and the sea

Now, it’s time to consider some of the main aspects you should keep in mind when planning your trip to Murcia. Here are the main characteristics and details about Playa de la Isla so you can better plan your trip and get the most out of your vacation.

Make sure to take a look at each one to avoid any surprises during your trip. We will cover multiple aspects of the beach and its surroundings, including the environment, nearby restaurants, and many other things. Here’s everything you need to know:

Affordable Hotels and Food

picture taken from a restaurant showing people doing dance classes at the beach in Spain

If you’re visiting Playa de la Isla, don’t worry about spending wads of cash, as most restaurants and hotels offer affordable options and budget-friendly alternatives for everything you might need during your stay. You can order food directly from the beach from some restaurants next to the shore and enjoy local food options for an excellent price.

Even though hotel prices can increase during high season, it is nothing absurd, and you can still find affordable options.

It will please everyone whether you’re going alone or with friends and families. The activities are also not expensive, and you can find all kinds of experiences for all price ranges.

The Beach Has Strong Waves

image of the beach showing the waves hitting the rocks

Some beaches in the region of Murcia tend to have calm seas and few waves, but this is not the case with Playa de la Isla. The sea is usually agitated and produces some of the strongest winds around the region’s shore.

Make sure to keep this in mind when putting your umbrellas in the sand or taking kids to the beach. It is always recommended to have a responsible parent taking care of them and watching to avoid any problems or accidents during the time there.

Even though the sea is agitated compared to other beaches, it does not kill the mood or anything like that. It is still the perfect spot for the entire family to spend vacation together.

Lifeguard Services Throughout the Beach

image from playa de la isla showing a lifeguard station

Another significant aspect of this beach is that you can find lifeguard services and help located directly at the shore of the beach, so whether a child needs help finding their parents or anything else, you’ll have someone ready to give you a hand. These lifeguard booths are available throughout the entire beach and are your best friend if you want a vacation without any problems or surprises.

They also provide essential information about the sea. You can tell how dangerous the sea is by checking the flag attached to the booth. A green flag means the sea is calm, while a red flag means it’s agitated and has many waves.

Not Much Parking Space

image from Mazarrón showing the sea on the side

If you’re visiting Playa de la Isla, it is important to know that there is no easy parking around the bay or any part of the beach. It is always recommended to go on foot or use a car service to access the place.

This serves as an entrance to the beach and other activities around town. Finding a place to park is a true challenge, especially during high season. Some parts can get a little overcrowded, and using a car can make the experience much more difficult.

The good part is that everything is fairly close, so you don’t have to worry about transportation. Whether you want to see the boats, visit some shops, go to a bar, or anything else, the entire place is easily accessible. Even though a specific place is on the opposite side of the city, it is still easy to find and access.

Tons of Activities to Do

image of a person swimming after a boat ride

If you visit Playa de la Isla, you’ll never get bored. You can do an infinity of activities to make your trip unforgettable and filled with good memories. You can take boat rides around the region, go scuba diving, take a one-day cruise, and have many other options. Their price also vary, and you can find possibilities of all ranges, but one thing is common to all: you’ll have the best time of your life.

We highly recommend visiting the ARQUA museum. It’s a subaquatic archeological museum and was one of the best experiences I had visiting the region. It is a great option for the entire family, and you’ll surely learn tons of new things about the region’s aquatic life.

Pay Attention to the Rules

image of a sign in playa de la isla showing multiple rules and recommendations

Just like any other beach or public environment in the region, there are rules and recommendations that should be followed. Make sure to pay attention to them to ensure the best experience for you and those around you as well. This avoids accidents and makes your trip memorable for you and your family.

The recommendations are simple, and you can easily find them when exploring the beach in big signs, or you can always ask the lifeguards working at the place about a specific subject. This way, you’ll surely have a great experience free of surprises or problems. By taking care of yourself and the environment, you also take care of the biodiversity of the place and help preserve its clean look, which is so beautiful.

Discover Playa del Pescador in Santiago de la Ribera, Murcia

Spain is a popular holiday destination, not only for its delicious local food and historical sites but also for its beautiful beaches, which are true works of art of nature.

The country has almost 8,000 kilometers of coastline, and many wonderful beaches are “overshadowed” by more famous destinations. This is the case with the beaches of Murcia.

Table of Contents

Understand the Region

Murcia is a university city in southeastern Spain and the capital of a region also called Murcia. Its stunning coastline, the Costa Cálida, stretches over 250 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, we will discuss Playa Del Pescador, one of the beaches I most enjoyed when I traveled there.

The Mar Menor

Mar Menor beaches are enclosed within the protective circle of Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon, provided by the Mediterranean. With an area of approximately 170 km², this lagoon is relatively shallow, with an average depth of 4 meters and a maximum of around 7 meters, and is separated from the Mediterranean Sea by a narrow strip of land known as La Manga, which stretches for around 22 km.

The water in the Mar Menor is notably saltier than that of the Mediterranean due to rapid evaporation and less water renewal, which contributes to its unique characteristics. The water temperature is generally warmer. Its geographical peculiarities create some of the best conditions in Spain for those learning watersports.

In addition to being a popular spot for family bathing and water sports such as sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and paddleboarding, the Mar Menor is renowned for its therapeutic benefits. The region’s mineral-rich mudflats are used for health and wellness treatments, attracting visitors seeking relaxation and natural care.

Many Mar Menor beaches are structured to offer numerous facilities for tourists, such as lifeguards and access ramps. Also, most of the beaches have very gently sloping shelves. This special and diverse ecosystem makes the Mar Menor a unique and attractive tourist destination.

Santiago de la Ribera

A Mar Menor beach in Santiago de la Ribera, bathed by the Mar Menor Coastline

Tripadvisor – Ana Belen Navarro

Santiago de la Ribera is the most populous district of the municipality of San Javier town in the autonomous community of Murcia, Spain. It is located on the coast of Murcia. This former fishing village has 4 kilometers of beaches with fine, golden sand, and its waters, bathed by both Mar Menor and Mediterranean coastlines, are ideal for enjoying the sea, the sun, and water sports all year round. The beaches of Santiago de la Ribera, with their gentle slopes and lack of significant currents, are ideal for locals and tourists looking for relaxation and safe fun.

Urban Beaches In Santiago de la Ribera

In this article, we will talk about Playa Del Pescador, but the rich region also has incredible beaches worth mentioning. From south to north, the beaches are:

Playa de la Hita

A natural beach with no facilities next to the environmentally protected area of Islas del Mar Menor and the Camping Mar Menor park.

This beach is known for its unspoiled natural beauty, offering a peaceful retreat for nature lovers.

Playa de Barnuevo (or Playa de Barnueno)

One of the most accessible and popular beaches, Playa de Barnuevo, is ideal for families and visitors looking for convenience and nearby services. Its calm waters are perfect for swimming and relaxing. Just after Barnuevo beach, you will find Playa el Pescador!

Playa de Colón

Playa de Colón stands out for its glorious kilometre-long beach with fine sand. It is an important location for watersports enthusiasts, with a windsurfing and sailing school. Its well-developed infrastructure attracts many visitors throughout the year.

Playa El Castillico

It is extremely popular during the summer, with a length of 450 meters and an average width of 40 meters. Its vast stretch of sand and shallow waters make it a favorite spot for families and swimmers.

Playa del Atalayón

Although Playa del Atalayón does not have a traditional beach, it does offer anchorages for sailboats, making it a point of interest for sailors.

Playa Del Pescador Is In Santiago De La Ribera

This district has many beautiful beaches, including Playa Del Pescador. This hot beach is ideal for relaxing during the summer and attracts tourists and locals.

Beach Features

Playa del Pescador is known for its clear, calm waters, which make it ideal for families and those who enjoy safe swimming. The fine, dark, soft sand invites visitors to relax in the sun, while the gentle sound of the waves creates a perfect relaxing environment.

The attractive urban beach is 250 meters long and 25 meters wide and has a high occupancy rate, especially in summer.

No smoking!

Since summer 2019, the beach has been designated a “non-smoking” beach by the City Council of San Javier. There is no official ban, but swimmers and other beachgoers are encouraged to refrain from lighting up on the sand. This initiative prevents non-smokers from being exposed to the harmful agents of cigarettes or similar products, as well as preventing butts, ash, or residue from cigarette products or similar products from polluting the sand or sea.

Facilities

One of the reasons I like Playa del Pescador so much is that it is very well-equipped. Most of the services are available during the high season. There is drinking water available, as well as a special area for the disabled and a cordoned-off bathing area for greater safety (it’s great for elderly bathers). The beach has toilets, safe bathing areas, and a kiosk where visitors can buy drinks and snacks.

For those who enjoy sports, the beach offers equipment and courts for various activities, such as beach volleyball and beach football. There are designated picnic facilities and play areas for children. In addition, there are foot baths, trash cans, ramps, and wooden walkways that lead down to the wet sand, making it easy for everyone to access

Gastronomy In The Area

The region has many food and drink options, all within easy walking distance. From the Chiringuito Mistral, a kiosk practically on the beach, to nearby options.

At the Chiringuito, I enjoyed a nice cold beer with an incredible sea view.

In the mornings, I had coffee at Panadería Jose Antonio, on the beach street, with great options for a full breakfast.

However, the highlight of the culinary experience was the El Embarcadero restaurant. It is a beautiful and comfortable space where I found traditional Spanish dishes and more general options. The service was great!

I can say that the options of bars and restaurants in the region are vast, and will cater to all types of palates and tastes!

Real Club de Regatas de Santiago de la Ribera

On the beach, you will also find the Real Club de Regatas, a complete sailing club that enhances the tourist experience. The club offers a modern and well-equipped infrastructure, with various services to meet the needs of its members and visitors. Among the main facilities, the following stand out:

  • Marina: The club’s marina is safe and well-maintained, with capacity for several vessels. It provides high-quality anchorage and maintenance services.
  • Sailing School: The club has a highly respected sailing school, which offers courses for all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced sailors.
  • Events and Regattas: The club organizes and hosts several regattas and competitions throughout the year, attracting competitors from around the world. These events are highlights in the region’s sailing calendar.
  • Sports Facilities: Besides nautical activities, the club offers sports facilities, such as tennis courts and swimming pools, providing a complete leisure and sports experience for its members.
  • Restaurant and Social Areas: The club has a restaurant that offers excellent local and international cuisine and social areas where members can relax and enjoy socializing.

Many water activities include sailing, rowing, windsurfing, and sport fishing. Special programs for young people and children are also included, which makes it easier for people to travel with their families since there are activities for all ages.

How To Get to Playa Del Pescador

To get to Playa del Pescador in Santiago de la Ribera, San Javier:

  • By Car: Take the AP-7 and exit at San Javier/Santiago de la Ribera. Follow the signs for Santiago de la Ribera and Playa del Pescador. Parking is available near the beach.
  • By Bus: Local bus services connect San Javier to Santiago de la Ribera. Get off at the Virgen de Loerto (The bus stop nearby) to walt to Playa del Pescador.

  • By Boat: Anchor at the Club Náutico de Santiago de la Ribera, a short distance from the beach.

Parking

It is important to mention that there is very little parking in the area due to its location in a pedestrian zone. In the summer, most street parking and parking businesses are available on the streets behind the front lines of residential buildings. Sometimes, it may be necessary to park a few streets back during the summer. So, I generally arrived very early there. Not only did it help me make the most of the day, but I could also park close to the beach.

Summing it up

Playa del Pescador is one of the many charming beaches in San Javier. Its fine, soft sand and calm waters offer a serene retreat. Like other beaches in San Javier, it is known for its ideal conditions for calm bathing conditions, with marked bathing areas that create safe zones for swimmers.

With its warm, salty waters, this beach of Mar Menor is the area’s main attraction, providing ideal conditions for water sports all year round, especially for beginners. The Real Club de Regatas de Santiago de la Ribera and other nearby facilities offer excellent services and activities for sailing and other water sports enthusiasts.

With a prime location on the Mediterranean coast and easy access, Playa del Pescador is part of a rich tapestry of urban beaches that attract many visitors during the summer months. The combination of its natural features, quality infrastructure, and proximity to other attractions makes Playa del Pescador a must-see destination in Costa Cálida.

If you don’t know, this hidden beauty is located in Monte de las Cenizas, right next to Mar Menor and the cities of Cartagena and La Unión in Murcia. It’s a famous tourist attraction with everything you need for a great sunny walk, whether you go through the coast’s fine golden sand or the lonely coves covering the entire region and giving this place its distinct look.

Its location is easily accessible, and you don’t have to be a professional hiker to take this tour throughout the park. In fact, you can have an experienced guide to help you if you visit the information centre or explore the place on your own. The best option is up to you and what you expect from the experience when visiting this place. No matter which option you choose, respect the rules and recommendations of the place to have the best experience possible when enjoying this incredible land. It has numerous entrance points and places you can use to access the area, but the main entrance’s address is 30385 Cartagena, Murcia, Spain. It is easily accessible, and one of the main roads passes right next to it.

What You Need to Know Before Visiting the Park

Now, we will show you the main aspects and details you should know about before packing your luggage to visit the arid mountains of Calblanque Regional Park. Make sure to take a look at all items to better plan your trip and ensure no surprises along the way.

Here is everything you need to know:

One of the Most Diverse Terrains of All Europe

image showing the golden sand and natural rock formations from Calblanque

Calblanque is not your average natural park formed of sand and some mountains. The diversity of terrains here is one of the biggest in the entire continent.

Along with the sandy areas, you can also find fossil dunes, salt flats, and many other areas that tell the story of this region and the natural transformations that occurred there throughout the centuries. These different terrains also generate unique landscapes and various views that will shock you.

You can start exploring the mountain massifs and, in just a few steps, access Calblanque Beach, which will make you feel like you’re in a totally different place. This is one of the park’s most unique aspects, and it’s why so many people visit this spot daily.

Another aspect that completely changes the landscape is the seasons and climate. Depending on when you visit, you can observe sea birds flying under the sunlight or see the gray skies of a rainy landscape. It’s a magical experience that catches your eye every place you look.

Diverse Plants and Animals

As we mentioned, the place has a variety of formations, from white salt lakes to muddy mountains. As you walk through the park, you will naturally find a variety of plant species.

But that doesn’t stop there. One of the most remarkable characteristics of Calblanque is the number of species you can find around the place. From Bonelli’s Eagles to beech martens and even rabbits chilling in the fields, the fauna of this place is truly outstanding and will grant you incredible pictures.

When I visited the park for the first time, I was surprised to see flamingos, reptiles, and all kinds of species walking through the region. This natural formation creates a great place for these species to grow and show their beauty to the tourists walking around the cliffs and other terrains of the area.

Great Beaches to Explore

image showing the golden sand and crystal water of Calblanque

When people think of parks, they often picture grass fields or green hills that you can climb for great views. But Calblanque is more than that. Along with putting your foot in the grass and climbing these hills, you’ll also experience walking in the golden sand of the numerous Calblanque beaches you’ll find along the way. The regional park is huge; thus, you’ll find tons of beaches and landscapes to explore. You can even see spots where you can swim with fish and enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Murcia.

When visiting the park, be sure to read the signs at the entrance. Some areas are not suitable for swimming, and it’s important to avoid doing so. This ensures your safety and helps preserve the local fauna and flora.

Great Location

image showing a path through the regional park

One of the best parts of Calblanque is its proximity to everything. You probably won’t spend an entire day at the park, and having all the nearby tourist attractions helps you make the most of your vacation.

Whether you want to explore Cabo de Palos, Cabezo de la Fuente, Cala de los Déntoles, or any region closer to the center of Murcia, you can reach all these places with a short walk or a quick Uber ride. You don’t need to rent a car.

Cartagena and La Unión municipalities are very close, and after a short walk enjoying the views, you’ll be back to the urban feeling of exploring the cities.

Cartagena is a tourist paradise thanks to the infinite possibilities and activities there. You can enjoy a sunny day at Cala Reona or explore the local cuisine in one of the numerous restaurants available without spending more than a couple of minutes driving.

I spent half of the day in Calblanque, and for the rest of the evening, I went to the municipality of La Unión to see the historical buildings and great restaurants available there. It’s a great place to eat seafood and grab a glass of wine at night.

Pay Attention to Rules and Recommendations

Lastly, it is indispensable to pay close attention to the rules and regulations on the board as you enter the park and the information centre. They contain a series of recommendations that ensure your safety and help preserve the natural beauty and life of this area.

As a protected natural reserve, it’s important to respect the rules to ensure a memorable experience that will stay with you for a long time. If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to ask the guides or locals. They’ll be happy to help and answer any questions you might have.

And don’t worry about your Spanish. The guides also understand English and are ready for any kind of problem that might appear along the way and as you explore the park. It is always recommended that you go with someone else. This helps prevent accidents and ensures everyone gets home safe after an amazing day exploring the fossil dunes and everything that the Calblanque Regional Park has to offer.

During my visit to the park, I had no problems with the guided tour, and the entire experience was incredible. The guides were extremely polite and helpful, making the experience even better.

Final Thoughts on Calblanque Regional Park

If you’re looking for the best destination for your next trip or vacation, Spain is an option that should never be overlooked. But beyond the classic destinations of the country and activities, one of the best things you can do when visiting the region is go to its regional parks and protected areas.

They hold outstanding beauties and landscapes you’ll never forget. They are very common, especially in the region of Murcia, and the natural formations create unique looks for each one of them. Make sure to respect the rules and orientations of the area, and you’ll have the best time of your life.

Now that you know everything, it is time to start packing your luggage to visit this piece of paradise. Whether you go alone or with your family, your vacation will be great.
