At first glance, El Valle Golf Resort marvels due to its superior surrounding development. It is in the middle of a desertic place that reminds us of Californian or Nevada landscapes. This way, all the buildings and departments in the resort’s perimeter area have spectacular views of the adjacent hills, the Mar Menor (from the Clubhouse), and the golf course, which stands like a garden amidst the desert.

El Valle Golf Resort is 20 km southeast of Murcia city. You can easily reach the complex by car, taking the A-20 road that crosses the city. It should take you twenty minutes or less to reach the facility.

The property has a relaxing atmosphere that blends wooden elements with modern furnishings, creating an inviting space to enjoy an excellent menu of delicatessen items and delicious regional and international dishes.

SPAR Mini Supermarket

This small supermarket is open seven days a week from 09:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thanks to its services, players and vacationers can easily access daily and essential resources.

The building is located in Fuente Alamo, 10 minutes away from major cities in the region and approximately 20 minutes away from the center of Murcia, so you don’t have to worry about renting your own car to enjoy everything this place offers.

The location is one of the best in the entire region. In addition to the gorgeous structure, you can find tons of incredible landscapes around the place. The resort is easy to locate and near numerous great attractions throughout Murcia.

It is located on the avenue with the same name as the resort, and you can get there quickly from almost every part of Murcia in a couple of minutes. You don’t need a car since you can easily get an Uber or cab to the hotel.

Each time I’ve visited Hacienda del Álamo Golf Hotel, I had no problems with transportation or locating where I had to go. It is a truly privileged location with some of the best views in Murcia. Even though some things might have a long walking distance, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Since we’re talking about a golf resort, it’s fair to start by reviewing, well… the golf course. If you’re a professional golfer or enthusiast looking for a place to show your skills and find everything you need for a great time, this is the perfect one.

This is more than just a hotel with a small golf course for you to spend your time. Here, you’ll find a pretty big 18-hole course that can please amateurs and professionals who want to adventure in this sport.

It’s important to highlight that it also offers a golf academy with lessons for both kids and adults who want to learn how to play the sport or improve their skills. This makes it a great place to practice, even though you don’t plan on staying the night in the resort. You can pay to spend a day and enjoy the course and all the other structures at your disposal.

I’ve never been a good golfer, but the lessons are great, and your swings will surely improve when playing. It’s one of the best parts of the resort and 100% recommended to everyone spending their vacation in Murcia.

Great Food and Restaurants

Another flawless aspect of Hacienda del Alamo is its restaurant options. You can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and local food in several breathtaking locations.

The best part of Hacienda’s restaurant is that more than the food, the architecture and position of the tables are incredible. You can eat food while looking at the resort’s green fields or with a stunning view of the entire city. The outdoor and indoor parts of the Club House Restaurant are also incredible and carefully projected to match the architecture of the rest of the hotel.

Everything is stunning and will make you want to try all the options on the menu. It’s essential to notice that the menu can change depending on the season and day of the week, but we ensure that every meal is prepared by some of the region’s most renowned chefs and will give you an unforgettable experience.

Even though the restaurant focuses on Mediterranean food, you can find options of all kinds, from fish caught directly from Mar Menor, next to the resort, to Italian cuisine options. You can enjoy golf and then relax by eating some of the best food you’ll find in Spain.

Bedrooms of All Prices and Sizes

If you plan on spending one or more nights in the resort, it is important to highlight that there are several options available, going from simple single-bed bedrooms to executive suites with stunning views. Ona Hacienda del Álamo has quality standards that apply to all suites, and regardless of which one you reserve, you can expect excellent quality when it comes to guest services and organization.

However, it is important to highlight that the most expensive units have advantages and privileges, including better views of the city and the resort and their own hot tub in the room. If you’re looking for the best hotel experience possible, prepare to spend a pretty penny since these bedrooms can be comfortable but very expensive.

The prices can range from 60 euros to almost 200 euros per night depending on the room you reserve and the services you hire. You can always research booking websites to find the best price when looking for a room in the resort.

The last time I stayed at Hacienda del Alamo, I slept in the Junior Suite with Terrace, and everything was stunning. The room service was impeccable, and waking up to a view of the golf course was truly magical. You’ll also have your own private hot tub, perfect for relaxing after a good game of golf or a tour around Murcia.

Several Lakes and Pools

You don’t have to worry about choosing a room with a private pool since the site features numerous outdoor swimming pools where you can go and spend the entire day. Whether you want a cold or hot swimming pool, you’ll surely find an option that perfectly fits what you’re looking for throughout the resort.

Along with these pools, you can also find lakes that are the perfect spot for a picture and a great place for a swim if you feel like it. Notice that some lakes are not swimmable, and you should not enter them. And please, no matter what happens, don’t swim in the lakes from the golf courses.

Except for the private pools in the rooms, all public pools are free to access once you check in at the resort, and you can use them for as long as you like. It’s a great experience that will leave you feeling relaxed and ready for your next adventure.

It’s Near Everything You Need

One thing is sure: the resort has everything you might need for an unforgettable trip. But even if that’s not enough for you, you don’t have to worry about transportation.

As we mentioned before, Hacienda del Alamo is near almost every important point of Murcia, and you can easily travel between the locations without renting a car. Several attractions and restaurants around the town are worth your time and will give you an idea of how good the local cuisine is.

You can go from theaters to famous tourist attractions on a short walk, and the most extensive driving range you might need to do is from the resort to Alicante Airport, which is not as near as the other one.

For reference, the distance between Murcia International Airport and Hacienda del Alamo is approximately 19km or a 20-minute car ride. On the other hand, going to Alicante Airport is a whopping 123km trip, taking roughly an hour.

Going to the beach is also a piece of cake, being a 26km ride while going to Cartagena takes 29km. You can easily visit the entire region and its main tourist attractions using an Uber or any carpool service.

High-Quality Service

One of the things that most surprised me when visiting the resort was how good every service was. From the check-in to when we left the apartments, everyone was extremely polite and helpful during processes, requests, and every occasion.

Whether I needed room service or someone to answer a question, the team was very polite and would do everything to give me the best experience possible. They would guide me wherever I wanted to go, answer questions about the executive course, or help me with anything I might need during my stay.

The same goes for the structures. No matter if you’re on the paddle tennis course, the indoor beach, or anywhere else, you’ll always find someone nearby willing to help and answer any of your questions. It’s a 5-star service you rarely see in other establishments.

Don’t worry about not knowing Spanish or anything like that. The entire crew can speak English and help you with whatever you need.

The Fun Is Endless

One thing you’ll notice when staying at Hacienda del Álamo Golf Resort is that there’s always something new to do. You could stay for weeks and still need more time to enjoy everything this beautiful place has to offer.

From guided tours around the facilities to parties at night, the resort is always full of life and joy. You can go to bars at night, enjoy a spa day, or hit the gym to stay in shape. There’s no limit to what this place offers, being the perfect destination for your trip.

Considering all the aspects listed above and our overall experience in Ona Hacienda del Álamo, is the resort worth spending your bucks on? The answer is yes.

The resort has one of the best all-inclusive experiences you can find in all of Spain. From the golf field to the numerous pools you can find throughout the facility, the possibilities are endless, and you’ll have fun every day of your vacation.

Another advantage of staying in Hacienda del Alamo is that you’re fairly close to all the essential parts of Murcia, especially the international airport, so going to places should not be a problem at all. However, if your flight is booked at Alicante Airport, this can be an annoying problem since you’ll have to travel an hour just to get from the airport, so keep that in mind.

The prices are surprisingly low for a resort of this kind, and rooms can easily be found for 60 euros a night. If you’re looking for affordable luxury experiences, this is a great one.

We definitely recommend the place, whether you’re going alone or with someone else. It was one of the best resorts we’ve ever visited in Europe.

La Manga Club Resort was created almost 50 years ago, founded in 1972 by Gregory Peters of California, a golfer and businessman. At that time, the resort was a pioneer in the area and focused primarily on golf when few knew about the sport. With two golf courses opened then, La Manga Club quickly became a landmark in the region.

La Manga Club Structure And Amenities

Over the years, the complex has expanded its facilities, including a hotel, apartments, football pitches, and an impressive 28-court tennis center run by tennis legends such as Manolo Santana.

Today, La Manga Club covers an extensive area of 560 hectares and remains one of the continent’s leading sports and leisure holiday resorts. Recently, the club opened the luxurious Grand Hyatt La Manga Club Golf & Spa. The resort offers renovated rooms and common areas, a new adults-only pool, a spectacular spa, and new dining options. Guests can enjoy a spacious outdoor pool and a private beach just 3 km away.

Cycling: The club has the Gold Quality Certificate granted by Cycling Friendly, which specializes in consultancy, quality management, and cycling promotion. Thus, the club guarantees the highest level of services and the best facilities for cyclists.

Cricket: La Manga Club offers excellent cricket facilities in Spain, including two first-class pitches, five artificial net tracks and a field training area. The resort has hosted major national tournaments with a European Cricket Center, attracting players from the UK, Europe, and Asia.

Triathlon: La Manga Club is considered the best place for amateurs and professionals to practice triathlon due to its excellent facilities. There, you will find open water swimming opportunities close to the resort, various cycling routes, and numerous running trails in and around the resort’s 500 hectares of land.

La Manga Club arranges e­vents and contests for golfers of all skill le­vels, offering a variety of compe­titions for both amateur and professional players. Whe­ther it’s the club’s yearly championship, charity e­vents, or important international tournaments, the­re’s something for eve­ry golfer to take part in or watch.

Many big tournaments have­ been held the­re, like the Spanish Ope­n, the Spanish PGA Championship, the Spanish Junior Championship, the Wome­n’s Spanish Open, the Copa del Re­y, and the Spanish Senior International Ope­n for men. Famous gue­sts such as Arnold Palmer, Ronnie Whelan, and Ronald Ke­nnedy have visited the­ club and enjoyed fundraising and golf eve­nts.

This year (November), the Club will host the­ Farmfoods Seniors tournament.

The space is home to three championship golf courses (north course, south course, and west course), with excellent practice facilities. Today, we will focus specifically on the North Course.

La Manga Club North Course

Designed by renowned golf architect Robert Dean Putman, the La Manga North Course boasts a stunning layout that winds through the region’s picturesque landscapes. The La Manga Club North Course is wide and moderately short, perfect for high to mid handicappers, yet remains a great test of golf for all levels.

Structure

The North Course is slightly shorter and hillier than the West and South Course. Palm trees, lakes, and natural storm gullies (known as “barrancas”) are key features of the North Course.

The Palm trees line most of the fairways, and the putting surfaces (often multi-level) are well proportioned, with creative greenside bunkering and tighter fairways in evidence.

The tighter fairways and larger greens than the other courses are built to USGA specification, with a notable amount of movement incorporated into them.

The undulating course has 18 holes with a total par of 71. It follows a links style, with varying distances, including holes with distances of 5,755, 5,426, 5,187, and 4,962 meters.

The large greens’ movement adds to the challenge, primarily the short par-3 2nd, which has three different tiers. This is a technically more accessible course for players of all levels.

Real Golf La Manga Club – Academy

If you are not a golf expert (as most of us are not), you can have lessons and enjoy the North Course with a professional instructor team.

Established at the end of 2019, the Club Golf Academy’s main objective is to help enjoy golf even more. The 5-day Total Golf Experience school is the most popular option. Still, they have many lesson options available in both an individual and group setting in English, Spanish, and French for adults or kids.

The space features two state-of-the-art classrooms, four separate group classrooms, a 45-bay training area, and excellent short-game facilities, meaning all learning and practice goals can be achieved for any client. I had the opportunity to stay there for a few days, and the academy classes were essential for me to take advantage of what the courses offer. The staff and instructor provided exceptional service!

An Awesome Golfing Experience

Undoubtedly, La Manga Club’s North Course has earned a special place in my heart as my favorite course in the resort. I can’t wait to return and take on its challenges again.

The North Course offers a different golf experience compared to its South and West counterparts. Although it may be slightly shorter, it makes up for it with its challenging fairways and spacious greens. I’m not a professional golfer, so the experience there was more enjoyable than the other courses.

Each hole presents new challenges, from small greens to narrow fairways, complemented by natural features such as mountain overlooks and ravines. Also, it’s essential to mention the excellent condition of the course. It was impeccable!

Although the La Serena golf course is not overly long and relatively flat, it uses a traditional structure. It has a prevailing Levante wind that challenges players, to be precise, from tee to green. The course features rolling hills and undulating fairways, with flower-shaped bunkers scattered among lakes, greens, and palm trees.

The main highlights are several large lakes intertwined with abundant wildlife along the way. Sixteen of the 18 holes feature many water hazards and lakes, but the entire course is designed to provide golfers with alternative strategies on every hole.

Strategy is a must in this game; each hole offers options for the brave and the cautious and safe areas if you don’t want to risk shooting on the water.

Inside the resort, I could enjoy delicious dining options at the on-site restaurant, relax by the outdoor pool in the picturesque gardens, and enjoy the heated indoor pool. Their gym was so well-equipped that it made me try training with weights for the first time!

For total relaxation, the magnificent spa was an incredible experience. They offer various rejuvenating beauty and wellness treatments that ensure a great moment.

Environment

The place has implemented significant environmental actions to improve its practices and minimize negative ecological impacts.

The course has been selecting and testing grass varieties for over two years to renovate and improve its greens. In 2020, Bermuda Ultra-Dwarf was chosen due to its harmony in hot climates. This variety consumes, on average, 30% less water than the current variety and has a high tolerance to salinity, weeds, and different diseases, which considerably reduces the use of phytosanitary products. The renovation improves biodiversity by helping maintain natural habitats and substantially increasing the golf course’s great condition, consequently improving the player’s experience.

How to Get the Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort

If you want to visit the Hacienda by car, you can do so easily thanks to the regional motorways that provide quick access to its installations. From Murcia, we should take the RM-1 motorway and then exit RM-F56. Of course, we can also get there by taxi.

We can easily access the Hacienda directly from the Murcia International Airport (Corvera). The airport is twenty minutes away from the resort. We can also access the Hacienda from the Alicante Airport, which is sixty minutes away from the resort.

The Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course

The Hacienda Riquelme’s golf course was designed by Nicklaus Design and inaugurated in June 2008. It satisfied the needs of novice and professional golfers looking for a pitch with extensive fairways and beautiful landscapes.

This golf course features 6,356 meters from the tee to the green point, is Par 72, and boasts eighteen holes surrounded by olive trees and water hazards. Indeed, this course stands out due to its handful of lakes, various bunkers, and multi-tiered greens.

Undoubtedly, the Hacienda Riquelme’s golf course is one the most interesting attractions of the Hacienda and even of the Murcia region, especially for tourists from all over Europe and in every season of the year, either summer or winter.

Tees, Greens, and Grass

The Hacienda Riquelme Golf Course

Most of the greens in this golf course are high and wide, which is incredibly beneficial for both types of golfers – novices and seniors – since they can practice and enjoy their swing and hip movement! However, golfers will require a range of driving abilities – such as an excellent swing or constant par – to advance properly throughout the course while witnessing the incredible views of El Valle.

One of the most notable aspects of this course is that it is completely made up (tees, greens, greens, and rough) of Paspalum Vaginatum, a particular kind of grass that does not require too much water for its conservation. This grass also supports changes in weather and temperature. In general, the golf course seems like a calming and high-quality park where to spend a nice Saturday afternoon.

Holes’ Complexity and Obstacles

Hole 9 stands out due to its complexity. It’s a Par 4 and is 341 meters from the tees. This hole has a water body to the side throughout its entire length. The tee is very near the lake, so the first strike to the ball should be incredibly accurate. Besides, the green is surrounded by a protected bunker, so doing a par, a bogey, or even a birdie is really complicated.

Hole 18, on the other hand, is a Par 4 that is 369 meters from the tee to the green. It is probably the most difficult hole on this course. The tee is also near the lake, and the golfer must make a large strike to overcome the water hazard immediately ahead. In the fairway, we will find two large bunkers, one on the right side and another on the left side. Moreover, the entrance to the green is very narrow.

Consequently, it’s the right hole to consider our abilities and decide if we’re good enough to make a par. Sometimes, a bogey is not a bad idea! If we’re lucky or good enough, we will be able to make a putt and hit the small softly to complete the hole.

Dress Code

We should keep in mind that the Hacienda’s golf course has exclusive access. Therefore, we need to respect the dress code to access the golf pitch, which means we need to wear a proper outfit to play there.

Men: knee-length trousers or shorts, tucked shirts, long socks, and gold shoes.

Women: skirts or shorts, short-sleeve collared shirts, and golf shoes, like spikes.

El Cason de Riquelme is located in the resort’s manor house, which, as we mentioned earlier, dates from the 19th century. This house previously belonged to the Riquelme family. The family restored the house over the years, and nowadays, it is an outstanding place with magnificent accommodation and world-class services.

This house and restaurant are characterized by boasting spacious bedrooms that currently are used for dining and breakfast rooms. El Casón Restaurant also has a wide terrace located in the external area alongside the gardens and general amenities.

The Cason offers high-quality service and an enjoyable site for breakfast, lunch, and dining. Yet, if we just want to drink a refreshing juice or water, the accommodation is great for enjoying the view while the calm air touches our faces.

The store offers a multitude of goods and foods to satisfy the community. It also boasts hundreds of Spanish and imported products. Moreover, the place prepares freshly baked bread every day!

It is always the right moment to purchase a delicatessen in this supermarket located in the centre of the resort, which is an incredible advantage in comparison to other resorts or clubs in the area.

Finally, the supermarket also has a good selection of household products, from BBQ coals going through toiletries to towels and other crucial stuff. In other words, here we will find everything we expect from a well-stocked supermarket.

What Is La Manga Club?

La Manga Club is a luxurious and exclusive tourist, sports, and leisure complex located in the region of Murcia, Spain, south of the Mar Menor. It’s surrounded by a magnificent natural environment, very close to the Mediterranean coast, beaches, coves, and archaeological sites that enrich the experience. La Manga Club also has incredible golf courses, which we will delve into in this article. These courses have a good number of intriguing dogleg holes, courses for beginners and professionals, and many challenges for us to overcome.

What Is La Manga Club South Course?

It is a golf pitch characterized by wide palm-fringed fairways. Still, this south golf course is fairly spacious. Additionally, since most holes have bodies of water, many golfers may reconsider whether they want to play on this particular course.

The South Course is considered a long course, featuring almost 6,500 meters from the white tees. It has multiple water hazards –elevating the play’s difficulty– on 15 of its 18 holes and a few hidden dangers. The front nine is particularly challenging, with two par 3s in excess of 200 meters. To successfully cross the course, you will require fairway woods or long irons to the green. Keep in mind that this course is a total challenge and can be really tough!

The front nine holes are especially challenging, with several sands and water traps. The course includes two par three with more than 200 meters and some daunting par four. These holes require precise driving between bodies of water and strategically positioned bunkers. The back nine is shorter than the front nine and has a good number of intriguing dog-leg holes.

We must pay special attention to holes 11 and 12, which demand precise club selection to reach the greens on the other side of the water.

The South Course has hosted many major professional tournaments, including men’s and women’s PGA Championships and several Spanish Opens.

The History Behind One of the Best Sports Resorts in La Manga

La Manga Club, and especially Campo Sur, has more than fifty years of history and experience. As the best golf resort in the area, this club specializes in providing the best golf experience that will demand accurate driving between strategically placed water hazards and palm trees.

The South Course and North Course Club Resort were designed by Robert Putman, an American professional whom Gregory Peters commissioned to build these contrasting golf courses in 1971-1972. Shortly after its inauguration, the course hosted five Spanish Opens.

Twenty years later, Arnold Palmer improved the course by building a new landscape for the golf experience. Major changes include additional and cunning water hazards, tree planting, and green modifications, making the South Course more challenging for the discerning golfer. Then, in 2004, the house renovated the course, changing it considerably since it hosted the Spanish Open between 1973 and 1977.

The West Course Map.

An extra course, the West Course, was added in 1998 when Dave Thomas, a former golf player and golf course designer, extended the previous 9-hole course, La Princesa, originally designed in 1986.

• 37 Spike & Sports Bar. This service is in the Clubhouse and offers an incredible view of the North Course and the Practice Ground. Here, we can enjoy an incredible Spanish breakfast and lunch. The bar offers a great selection of burgers.
  

• Golf Academy. The Practice Ground and the new Golf Academy are the right places to learn the basics and strengthen our existing skills. The most popular option is a five-day Total Golf Experience with individual and group lessons.

Golf South Course Dress Code La Manga Club

As you know, if you have visited some golf courses or have played this sport before, you must dress in the appropriate clothing to enter the club and the golf course. Therefore, the South Course has the following dress code requirements.

• Golf attire should conform to the tradition of the sport of golf and the standards of the club.
  
• Casual clothing such as t-shirts, jeans, tank tops, sportswear, swimsuits, and shorts above the knee are prohibited.
  
• Sandals and flip-flops are strictly prohibited in all areas of the house and on the golf course.
  
• Jeans are only acceptable in the Clubhouse as long as they are clean and tidy, free of holes, rips, tears, and frays.
  
• We must play on the golf course with soft spikes. Sports shoes or metal spikes are not allowed.
